Causes of Summertime AC Failure

Although the summertime heat accompanies summertime fun, there’s nothing like a cool, air-conditioned house to come home to after a long sweltering day outside.  However if you find yourself with a malfunctioning air conditioner, you’ll be left with an oppressively hot home that might not be any better than the outside temps. We’re sharing five possible reasons why your AC might not be working the way it should be during these warm-weather months.

Dirty Air Filters

Having dirty air filters is one of the most common reasons for AC malfunctions in homes. Because of the general buildup, dirty air filters cause poor cool airflow. If you feel like your AC isn’t running as well as it should, you might want to check your air filters to make sure they are clean. In addition, make sure you are replacing your air filters on schedule.

Refrigerant Leak

Another cause of air conditioner problems could be a refrigerant leak. Due to the elevated temperatures, air conditioners work much harder during the summer months. Because of this, the refrigerant is used at a faster pace which, in turn, puts the tubes under more pressure. Unfortunately, this can cause the tubes to crack and the refrigerant to leak.

If you find your AC just not cooling, you might be experiencing a refrigerant leak and should schedule a repair with one of our licensed technicians.

Frozen Evaporated Coils

Frozen evaporator coils are another reason your AC might not be working. Though the coils are supposed to get cold, if they get too cold, then they could end up freezing. This would cause the AC to stop running correctly.

Once you notice a frozen AC coil, make sure to contact us as soon as possible. The longer this problem goes unaddressed, the more likely it is for your system to get damaged even further.

Faulty Blower Fan

Having a faulty blower fan could be why your air conditioner isn’t working how it should.  If the internal fan is not functioning correctly, all the cool air stays trapped in the system, leaving your home filled with the summer heat. There are many reasons that could cause the blower fan to become faulty, so if you find yourself thinking this may be a problem, schedule an appointment with one of our specialist so we can help..

Overlooking Maintenance

Overlooking or ignoring maintenance is another common reason for AC problems. Staying up to date on your HVAC maintenance helps keep all of the problems above, plus others, at bay by identifying and preventing any issues before they become a real problem. We recommend scheduling HVAC maintenance two times a year. Contact us to schedule your HVAC maintenance appointments today.
