Replace Your HVAC Filter
Prepare Your Vents/Registers
Here at Thermacon, we recommend dusting the vents or registers throughout your home before you use your heater. This will help clean up some of the build up that would eventually end up in your air. Additionally, make sure and check each of your vents to ensure that nothing is blocking the airflow from your vents and that each vent is opened all the way.
Remove Nearby Objects
Before turning on your heater, make sure and remove any objects that are near your unit or actually sitting on top of it. This includes things like boxes, furniture, storage containers, or anything else. Having any object nearby actually increases the risk of a fire, so keep yourself and your family safe by removing these objects.
Cover Up Your Condenser
If you have a traditional HVAC unit, look into purchasing a cover for your air conditioning condenser (the actual unit outside). By doing this, you can prevent any ice from collecting inside the unit itself while also preventing damage caused by hail, debris, and tree branches. With this though, heat pumps are different than the air conditioning condenser so in the case that your HVAC unit is a heat pump, do not cover it.
Turn Up the Thermostat
Before you use your heater on a regular basis, give it a test run by turning it on to make sure that it is working correctly. Set your thermostat to heat and wait a few minutes. You should be able to hear the unit turn on and the circulated air begin to come out warm. Let the heat run for awhile to make sure that your unit is ready for winter. If for some reason your heat does not end up turning on, contact us today!
